Downtown by car: what 14 km from Aeroparque looks like
Aeroparque is the city’s airport, on the river side of the costanera and used for domestic and regional flights, and the Microcentro is the business and tourist core a few kilometres inland. The trip is about 14 km, with an estimate of around 20 minutes, which depends heavily on the day. Weekday mornings and late afternoons are the busiest, and the closer you get to downtown, the denser the traffic and the slower the last blocks.
That last stretch is where a local driver matters most. The Microcentro has one-way streets, bus lanes and pedestrian areas, and some of the best-known streets are closed to cars. We ask for the exact hotel or office address so the driver chooses the closest legal drop-off point and does not leave you walking with luggage on the wrong block.
Think of the ride as two parts. The first runs from the airport along the river side of the city and then turns inland, and it usually moves well when the roads are clear. The second is the grid of the Microcentro itself, where each block has traffic lights, buses and deliveries. If you land during working hours, most of the minutes in the estimate are spent in this second part, not on the way in from the airport. That is why we say around 20 minutes rather than promising a number.
Five reasons to choose a driver over a taxi from the curb
- Your name at the exit: the driver waits at arrivals, so you meet one person instead of choosing among offers.
- Last-block knowledge: pedestrian streets and one-way avenues make the final approach tricky. A driver who works the area does it without detours.
- A trip you can plan: for a meeting or a check-in, you can arrange the pick-up for the return in advance and avoid improvising on departure day.
- Useful in English: the driver speaks English and can point out which building is which when you arrive.
- Better than driving:when you arrive.
- Better than driving: a rental car downtown means unfamiliar rules and nowhere simple to leave it, when your trip is only a few days in the centre.
Plaza de Mayo, Florida and the Obelisco
The Microcentro is the area around Plaza de Mayo, the historic square with the Casa Rosada, the Cabildo and the Catedral Metropolitana, and extends along Avenida de Mayo toward the Congreso. It is where government buildings, banks, offices and many hotels sit side by side, and where daily life in the capital is busiest on weekdays.
Florida street is the pedestrian shopping axis, and the Obelisco stands on the 9 de Julio avenue, one of the widest in the world, near theatres and the Teatro Colón. Because many sights are within a short walk of each other, travellers who stay here usually do not need a car for the rest of their visit. The area is best known for work and sightseeing during the day and is quieter in the evening, so tell us if you want a hotel guide on which streets to choose.
For a first afternoon, a simple plan works well: leave your bags at the hotel, walk to Plaza de Mayo, continue along Avenida de Mayo, and finish on Florida or at the Obelisco as the lights come on. Many people also use the Microcentro as the starting point for day trips, since it is a central place to leave from, and a driver who left you at the door can take you back to the airport when your visit ends.
Business visitors find that it makes sense to stay here for a different reason: the offices, banks and meeting rooms are within a few blocks, so a single transfer from the airport solves the whole commute for the trip. It is also an easy neighbourhood to leave behind quickly, since the way back to Aeroparque is the same short trip in reverse.

Tips for a downtown arrival
- Timing: if you arrive at rush hour, add margin to your first plan of the day. For a return, leave early enough to deal with traffic in the centre.
- Luggage: normal bags fit for every passenger. Tell us about bulky items and the driver plans where to stop.
- Children: ask for child seats ahead of time.
- Address: include the street, number and the hotel name. Many downtown blocks have similar entrances.
- Walking: once you have checked in, most of the central sights are reachable on foot, so leave your plans for the car for longer excursions.

Write to us on WhatsApp with your flight and the address downtown. We confirm the booking, follow your arrival and send a driver to meet you. If you also need the ride back, tell us the time of your departure flight and we plan it in the same conversation.
A last detail on addresses: the Microcentro mixes hotels, office towers and old apartment buildings, and the entrance is not always on the street named in your booking.
